By Gustavo Duch

In many houses, to give shelter to those who lost everything, the doors open like stagehands raising the curtain and help them to make the best of themselves. "Feel like family," they say with a smile of solidarity.

In the surrounding fields, between concrete walls and bomb holes, there are those who search the place, inch by inch, recovering seeds that, scared, have not yet germinated; and if they find grown grains, they harvest them and put away the chaff.

On the street, a mother has bought a balloon for her son. Neighborhoods full of rubble, the rubble of collapsed schools, bombed houses, razed farms are swept away. And with these stones the people of Gaza delimit new gardens to feed and cover their people with tones of dignity.

Funds for own works of the Union of Agriculture Work Committes [UAWC - Union of Peasant Committees of Palestine]:

Mundubat supports the UAWC from the area who fight every day for Food Sovereignty and the right of access to land, water and the production of healthy food and in the quantities necessary for the subsistence of the Palestinian people.

Right now they are too blocked attending and burying their families and other murdered people and providing cover for the refugees and wounded. A first consignment would go for medicines and emergency aid and in a second moment for the work of organization and peasant resistance. Many peasant families throughout the Gaza Strip have lost homes, have had to take refuge in the homes of relatives, shelters distributed by the Gaza authorities and the United Nations system.

The attacks on the Gazati population have meant that the rural areas of the Strip have suffered losses of fruit trees (25%), orchards (30%) and other crops and plots of these areas and that they cover 80% of the needs at the local level in Gaza [01]. Fishing operations have been seriously affected by the constant attacks, death of professionals and destruction of the fleet and equipment.

Failure to support peasant families in the short term in Gaza can lead to a crisis of food insecurity, which the Gaza population had been suffering from before due to the blockade imposed by Israel on the Strip since 2006.

[01] Note: the war situation itself means that the damage assessment is still provisional. We will continue to inform about it. Basic characteristics Establish a flow of active solidarity with the peasant communities of Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Help them in the reconstruction after the attacks and in the agricultural work and peasant resistance.

The project will work on the rehabilitation of lands damaged by the Israeli army in the Gaza area, rehabilitating and cultivating dunums

[02] with vine plants, citrus fruits, vegetables and providing the plots with irrigation systems, benefiting many peasant families. In addition, direct employment opportunities will be created for workers on the land to be rehabilitated with the installation of irrigation networks and the cultivation of plants.

The solidarity work structure consists of the technical coordinating team of the UAWC (agronomists) visiting the local peasant committees who have autonomy to decide which land and which peasant family units should receive aid and in what sense.

Mundubat accompanies the processes by assigning a worker (qualified and politically committed) in the area who stays and works from the Strip beyond emergency situations. Our link monitors and prepares informative and technical reports and collects information for all kinds of measures that can be activated from Euskalherria, the Spanish State, Europe of a political, economic nature, support actions ...

Mundubat works with UAWC throughout Palestine in permanent listening and coordination with other agents in the area:

- UPWC- Union of Palestinian Women Committees -

- UHWC- Union of Health Work Committees -

- PCHR- Palestinian Center of Human Rights -

In the north, Mundubat takes an active part in RESCOP and it is this platform that brings together the demands of the Palestinian People and receives direct information from Mundubat and our observer work in the area. [02] Notes: Measurement of agricultural work area used in Palestine that corresponds to about 1000 m2

Motivation and to whom the project is directed

Mundubat has collaborated with the peasant movement in Palestine since 2009, accompanying their strategy of food sovereignty and access to the resources that the occupation of their territory denies them. Thus, actions have been developed to promote family production, local markets and commerce, chicken cooperatives, honey, vegetables, and coordination with other peasant resistance movements at the regional and international level. In addition, support has been provided for the entry of the UAWC (the largest peasant movement in Palestine) into La Via Campesina International, with whose peasant movements it has been possible to establish strong ties of commitment (such as the MST of Brazil, which develops brigades to support peasant families every two years).

The denial of the sovereignty of the Palestinian people (of millenary productive customs) to their territory has resulted in a structural dependence on Israeli products, since Israel controls the borders, retains merchandise, implants the Separation Wall on some 1000 kilometers of land Palestine, dividing families, plots and denying access to water (wells and sea), among others.

Elikaherria, a joint effort between Mundubat and EHNE, has become a communicative space for the union of peasant struggles, developing a platform for the dissemination of information on food sovereignty both locally and internationally, with the case of Palestine gaining prominence these days.

Thus, the objectives of the campaign are focused on facilitating access to and developing productive resources for peasant families organized in the UAWC peasant movement so that they can guarantee minimum food security and thus be able to establish the foundations for future food sovereignty.

At a more political level, it seeks to inform about the occupation situation in which Palestinian peasant families and fisherwomen live, articulating their demands with other peasant movements that are part of La Via Campesina International.

To be part of this work, let's support the Union of Peasant Committees of

Palestina, a member organization of LA VÍA CAMPESINA.
